Time … and Timelessness
Measuring time is an inspired and intelligent idea.
It is a construct that brings the spiritual qualities of order, clarity and harmony to a worldwide system of human affairs. It is a mutually agreed upon structure that brings efficiency to daily living.
Time is the way we think about our lives as our thoughts are about what happened in the past, what is happening in the present and what may happen in the future. This is the Personal View where we define our lives as experiences in time.
We often think time is a problem. Time is not a problem, but our thoughts about time can be a problem. We accuse time as being a problem when we say “There was not enough time”, “There is too much time” and “When will the time come?” What we mean is that we want more time, that we want what we want now, and that we are impatient for something we want. These thoughts are the problem, not time.
On the other hand we often hear “Time heals all problems”, yet time has no healing properties and it is possible for there to be no healing regardless of how much time passes.
What this thought may be pointing to is the Spiritual View, when we see the continual expression of the good of life and our problematic thoughts are replaced and healed. This is like darkness disappearing in the presence of light.
In the Spiritual View there is no past, present or future, there is only awareness in timelessness of spiritual qualities, right now. With this awareness our problems dissolve as they can only exist in time.
Every individual has moments of being in the awareness of timelessness. This is the timeless now, which is eternal, distinct from the present which is measured in time.
In an “Aha” moment, when we are expressing creativity, beholding beauty, or when there is insight and understanding, there is timelessness. We are lifted out of the boundaries of human time into the mental freedom of timelessness. In the Personal View we might struggle to get to our appointments on time. With the Spiritual View we are interested in expressing the spiritual qualities of order and harmony, and we effortlessly arrive at our appointments “on time” with peace and assurance.
Sometimes we spontaneously find ourselves in timelessness. We may be walking down the street and notice something that we recognize as beautiful, such as a sunset, and at that moment our time-bound thoughts may disappear in the peace found in the momentary suspension of time.
Spiritual qualities are timeless, and yet they can express themselves beneficially in the lives we live in time.
