Physical Symptoms

Our life experiences are expressions of our thoughts, and this includes physical symptoms. Physical symptoms may be the most difficult personal experience to understand as an expression of our thoughts.

The connection of physical symptoms with one’s thoughts, or mental climate, is becoming widely acknowledged. It is now common for a doctor to include an assessment of the overall mental health and emotional well-being of the patient. Medication can be temporarily helpful by relieving symptoms, but it does not reveal and heal the underlying thought.

For example thoughts of anger, fear and resentment may express themselves as a variety of physical symptoms such as stomach problems, high blood pressure, skin problems, infections, heart issues, cancer, back problems, eating disorders, depression, insomnia, amnesia, breathing problems, or even in a physical fight with another or an automobile accident. There are many possible physical expressions of our thoughts.

Individually we are the gatekeeper of our thoughts. Every experience is the expression of either a personal thought or inspired idea. Once we see that this is true, we are at a mental fork in the road every moment of our life.

Instead of being frightened or angry with the Personal View of physical symptoms, we seek to be peaceful and clear with the Spiritual View.

In the Spiritual View when a physical symptom appears we can seek to see the underlying thought by asking questions like “What am I thinking?” “What is bothering me?” “What do I want?” “Who am I angry at?”, and many more.

The hurtful thoughts are often habits of petty frustrations and anger that we’ve accepted as everyday life. Sometimes it is good to discuss our thoughts privately with a doctor, therapist or trusted friend.

The Spiritual View is not a substitute for a medical intervention. When a symptom presents itself, we may or may not need medical assistance, but it is better when the decision comes with the spiritual qualities of intelligence and clarity.

Physical symptoms are opportunities to discover the benefits of the Spiritual View.
